One of America's favorite motifs, "Log Cabin" quilts were pieced with strips of cloth, or "logs", to create patterns recalling life in rural 19th-Century America. This spread was made from wool challis, a dress fabric popular during the Civil War period. The richly colorful fabrics in this striking quilt have been lovingly preserved, with minor signs of age.
