Made by Lillian Burns, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Quilters of the early 20th-Century had access to high quality commercial patterns, some professionally designed, others based on winners in national quilt contests. The ability to draw was no longer necessary for quilters whose skills leaned more towards fine applique and quilt stitchery. A number of outstanding spreads survive from the 1920's and 30's, rivaling quilts of the previous century. (See Twentieth-Century Quilts 1900-1950, Woodard & Greenstein, Pub. E.P.Dutton, NY) Circa 1930. Arkansas origin.
